Duane on Housing

  1. Housing inventory is too low, which drives up prices.
  2. Again, the natural family should be supported as the foundational authority and primary social unit.
  3. Tax policy should reduce the hoarding of single-family homes by corporations. In order to discourage holding multiple properties and keeping homes off the market, escalating taxes should be placed on each additional home. For individuals, every additional owned home should trigger a higher tax rate on all homes.
  4. Tax breaks may be offered to sellers who sell a property or home to a first-time homeowner (an individual or a family).
  5. Non-citizens are welcome to own a home in California so long as they live in it and contribute to their community.  California is not a place for foreigners to speculate on real estate or to find a safe place to park their money outside of their home country.
  6. Zoning and tax laws should favor the construction of single-family homes and encourage owners of unused or underused property (such as vacant parking lots) to sell so the land can be redeveloped into housing.
